Letters from the bank 1996 –

a large incomplete map of the world in black and white on a raised white plinth above a wooden floor.

‘Letters from the bank 1996 – ‘ is an ongoing map of the world constructed from letters from the bank, and envelopes from my bank statements. The work came about through a desire to transform these nasty, or just mundane, pieces of paper into something new, something extraordinary. Its form – the map of the world- reflects on how these things (bank letters) can absorb your energy and mental space, becoming your whole world.

Exhibited in: ‘Mapping’ a group show at Bury Art Gallery, 21/04/07 – 21/07/07 and  ‘Collect Transform Repeat’ a group show at The Michael West Gallery, Quay Arts, Newport 04/11/06 – 14/01/07
