Spinning Stories is a collaborative project with Emily Butterworth, from Kings College London, and The Women’s Library, that ran from 2008 -2011. The project explores gossip, walking, the changing face of the east end of London, the boundary between the public and the private – and laundry. We created a guided walk in East London, starting at the then home of the Women’s Library at London Metropolitan University and finishing on the Boundary Estate in Shoreditch. We also ran a series of workshops making commemorative handkerchiefs, inspired by the suffragette collections in the library, and The Nightwash Laundry Chorus, a participatory choral performance in a launderette.
